DECEMBER 2020
Giving is top of mind during the holiday season. In keeping with our annual tradition, we participated in the Ottawa Food Bank‘s Holiday Food Drive! We were happy to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations to bring holiday cheer into the homes of those in need.
Nothing gets us into the holiday spirit like helping to put smiles on children’s faces! Although we were unable to carry out our annual office toy exchange for Toy Mountain Ottawa this year, we eagerly participated in the initiative by collecting toys and dropping them off at our local drop-off location. It is certainly better to give than it is to receive!
We’re not going to sugar coat it. It has been a tough year. But it has been tougher for some. Charitable organizations have been uniquely impacted by the pandemic. The need for their services has increased, while their incoming funds have decreased. As your friendly neighbourhood CPA firm, serving your friendly neighbourhood businesses and not-for-profit organizations, we understand first-hand the critical importance of supporting local. We encourage you to not only shop local, but also to give local! We have complied a list of some amazing local charities on our giving list, along with handy donation links. These heart-warming organizations are sure to bring joy to the hearts of those in need this holiday season! View our list here.

LK Walks for Carmen
We did it! We walked the 20 km ‘walk together’ route through beautiful Ottawa, in loving memory of Carmen Cinanni. The original walk, scheduled for September 22nd, was cancelled due to tornadoes that affected its route. Therefore, our team, ‘LK Walks for Carmen’, decided to complete the walk ourselves on October 13th. Our walk began at the Accora Centre near and continued along the parkway, through downtown, and finish at The Maplesoft Centre on Alta Vista. We were exhausted, exhilarated and so very proud! Thank you to our amazing staff and our generous sponsors. We are still receiving donations and are thrilled to announce we have raised over $7,579! Together, we make a difference! Please visit the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation’s website to learn about the organization and how you can help.

Founded in 2008, Fight for the Cure is Ottawa’s white-collar boxing gala, where participants trade their suits in for boxing gear. FFTC has seen competitors from all corners of the professional world, from lawyers to politicians! Head over to their site to learn more: https://www.fightforthecure.ca/
Eating for a Cause
We truly ate our hearts out at Le Gala des Grands Chefs, with the amazing dishes created by the famous local chefs! At least we can say we ate for a good cause, as proceeds form the event went the Canadian Cancer Society. This was a gourmet experience worthy of the finest tables to fight against all cancers. Thanks to the commitment of business people, top chefs and their teams, the event combines gastronomy with professional networking. It is the ideal occasion to get involved in our community while developing new relationships and making connections!
Building a Better World
As a SheEO Activator, we are ALL IN to support, finance and celebrate female innovators on their own terms! Together, we are bringing out the best in women through #RadicalGenoristy. SheEO pushes the reset button on how to support women. There are 500 women (‘activators’) in each year’s cohort, who contribute $1,100 each, as an act of radical generosity. The money is pooled together and loaned out at zero percent interest to five female-led ventures selected by the activators. All ventures are revenue-generating with excellent potential and are creating a better world through their products and/or services. The loans are paid back over five years and then loaned out again, creating a perpetual fund which will be passed on to our daughters, nieces and granddaughters. Find out more at: https://sheeo.world/activators/signup/
